The song is probably best known from an episode of The Andy Griffith Show called Man in a Hurry. The Little Brown Church in the Vale was made famous by the song Church in the Wildwood and is a lovely spot for morning services or an afternoon picnic if you are passing through Nashua. Closed for only a day and a half in over ten years–that’s quite a record! He added that they went fishing the next day. We talked about his business for a bit, and he told me about the only time he has closed the store. It was a Saturday afternoon to go get married down at The Little Brown Church. The store is clean and neat and carries a nice array of goods and live bait for fishing in the area. The minnows are kept in cooled water, resulting in a longer life for the bait. The friendly store owner told me the walleye were biting down at the dam, unfortunately I had a long drive ahead and didn’t have enough time to go try my luck on this visit. Nub’s has been located just down the street from the dam between Cedar Lake and Cedar River in Nashua, Iowa since 2003.
